I have been breeding Labradors for twenty
years. All my breeding stock have OFA clearance on their hips and
elbows and their eyes are checked annually. I place my puppies
at seven weeks of age . By then, they have had their first shots, have
been wormed and have been vet checked. Our puppies are born in the
house and have been well socialized by the time they leave here. Since
we are a small kennel, we are able to give our puppies lots of
individual attention. By the time our "puppy people" are ready to
select their pup, we know each puppy's special qualities and
personality.
I hunt my Labs on Pheasants, Chukars
and Quail . I start them out early in life. Their training starts when
they are seven weeks old. By the time they are ten weeks old, I've
introduced them to birds. By four
months old, I am actually shooting over them. At that time, all that is required of the
pup is to find the bird, flush it and return it to me
after I have shot it. I've discovered that Labs are easy for me to train
because of their innate desire to please. I do my
training in the house where I have a hallway where the pups can't play
[keep away] That is how I train them to deliver to hand. Then I move
the training location to the outdoors. Most of the time I don't have to put a lead on them
to get them to return to me because of the training I've already done in the
house. That is just one of my training tips. I enjoy being a dog trainer
and breeder of good quality Labradors. I trained six pups
just this year. They are not finished yet ,but they are well on their
way. I will continue to train them for obedience and field work. As I
continue training, I will add distraction.
Our kennel is located in a small, rural
community just inside the Indiana/Ohio border. We welcome visitors
with advance notice. Ordinarily, we restrict visitors when our puppies
are "brand new". Even then, I am always glad to talk to
people on the phone or to communicate my love for this breed via
e-mail. Please feel free to contact me with questions or for
referrals. I am retired and devote most of my time to my dogs. My goal
is to breed physically sound, healthy, beautiful Labs who have
wonderful temperaments. I love to show visitors what my dogs will do.
